German Pinscher in Russia

In the early 2000s, the first German pinscher, Riward`s Mister Rick for Nestle Malin, born on November 25, 1998, was brought to Russia from Puerto Rico.

His appearance in our country was very unusual. It’s believed that Mister Rick was brought here not as a German pinscher, but as an overgrown miniature pinscher. True or not, Mr. Rick became the first German pinscher in Russia. Even if his appearance was accidental, it turned out to be fortunate – thanks to Mister Rick, a new dog breed appeared in Russia, that people now appreciate and love.

Mister Rick settled in St. Petersburg with Nikolai Kurylev, famous

handler and breeder of the «Absolut» kennel. It is not surprising that Mister Rick became the most titled German pinscher in Russia and abroad for the next decade. Thanks to Kurylev, people learned about the German Pinscher, began to talk about the breed and saw its bright representative.

Mr. Rick lived a very eventful and long life. He passed away in 2012.

The next pinscher to appear in our country was Galaxina (Of Leijliden Galaxina). She was born on November 6, 2000 in the famous Finnish nursery «Of Leijliden».

A few years later another representative of the German Pinscher breed arrived in Russia – Bosscheries Athena, born on August 1, 2003.

All these pinschers invariably became residents of St. Petersburg.

On May 25, 2005, a long-awaited event happened – the first litter of German pinschers from Mr. Rick and Athena (Bosscheries Athena) was born in the «Absolut» kennel! 3 red males were born: Absolut Aman, Absolut Argo, Absolut Agate.

In the same year, German Pinschers from abroad began to be imported more actively to Russia. This time black-and-tan dogs were brought.

In the spring of 2005, Ceriinan Hubert came to Russia from the famous Finnish nursery «Ceriinan». He became a resident of Volgograd.

In summer, Electra van de Doelaar from Belgium came to St. Petersburg, and Ceriinan Jojoba from Finland arrived in Moscow.

2006 was also a successful year for the import of German pinschers from Europe.

In March 2006, Antique Ann Black Bohemia arrived from the Czech Republic, settling in Magnitogorsk. In November, two littermates arrived from another Czech nursery («Harmoni Star»): Celleri-Ana Harmony Star and her brother Cirro Harmony Star. Cirro settled in Moscow, while Celleri-Ana stayed in St. Petersburg, sharing the family with Galaxina (Of Leijliden Galaxina).

At the end of 2006 (on November 17), the second litter of German Pinschers was born in Russia. The parents were Mister Rick and Electra van de Doelaar, they had 8 puppies – 3 girls and 5 boys:

  • Tim Spirit Ad Astra
  • Tim Spirit Absolute
  • Tim Spirit Atlantida
  • Tim Spirit Amber
  • Tim Spirit Asgard
  • Tim Spirit Apriori
  • Tim Spirit Artist
  • Tim Spirit Al Capone

It was this litter that gave a huge development to the German Pinscher breed in our country. Some of these puppies became the progenitors of most German Pinschers born in Russia:

In 2007, Udine vom Awarenring was brought from an Austrian nursery to Surgut. She and her owners settled in St. Petersburg.

In the same year, Gerry van de Doelaar was brought to St. Petersburg from Belgium.

Blanca von Achgrund arrived from Germany (in the «Tim Spirit» kennel).

In the spring of 2008, Duffyco’s Samara was brought to Kaliningrad from the German kennel «Duffyco’s».

At a fairly mature age (5 years old), Winnetou vom Zemp was brought from Switzerland to the St. Petersburg kennel «Tim Spirit».

Since 2008, the number of German Pinscher litters has increased annually. New kennels began to appear.

Today, German Pinschers live all over Russia, even in Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Murmansk and Sochi.

The population level of German Pinschers of Russian breeding has also increased, arousing interest among breeders in Europe. German pinschers started leaving Russia for European pinscher kennels. For many years now, German pinschers from Russia have been participating in every World Dog Show and European Dog Show and often become prize-winners at these major dog shows.
